The number one mistake our clients make is first asking if companies can waive their service call if the repair is completed.

These companies that are waiving service calls are technicians who have come from Toronto or Vancouver, which do not have to be regulated by the government and are trying their trade here in Alberta but working without the proper qualifications as most are just considered handymen services in other provinces.

Thus, because of this influx of new technicians, the competition has increased substantially, and these new companies are trying to gain business by waiving service call rates.

These companies hiring process is by posting ads on Kijiji or Facebook looking for handymen and after they have found a potential candidate, they send them various YouTube videos to see understand what potential jobs he may encounter.

These companies will not have any inclination to fix any appliances their main goal is to collect service call fees.

But what the customer does not know is that when they are able to waive their initial service call fee, they will just uncharge the client on parts and their labor rates to make up the difference. 

When looking for a certified appliance repair company, some things you have to ask the company you hire are, if the technician is working as a subcontractor or is they an employee of the company, most reputable companies have employees, for example, Advance Appliance, Champion Appliance etc, these companies use journeyman technicians and will be able to give you an invoice and payment receipt in their company letterhead.

Also, ask if the technician has a company uniform and what vehicle they use to visit client homes, such as a personal vehicle or the company van. When certified technicians come to your home, they should have a proper company van that can house all their tools and parts. This way, they don’t have to make multiple trips to fix a client’s appliance, ensuring they have the necessary tools on hand to do the job safely. If the technician is driving a regular car, it’s probably a red flag, as they won’t have enough tools to fix or diagnose any issues correctly.

The warranty period is from 30 Days up to 12 months. The exact warranty period depends on the type of appliance repair service.
