Hey guys John here from John H. Appliance Repair Sherwood Park and for those of you that don’t know me, I work on appliances for a living, today we’re going to talk about who you need to call to fix your appliance right, and your specific brand or manufacturer appliance.

Appliance Repair Sherwood Park

So first we’re going to use some detective skills and ask ourselves a few questions to see if we even need to call a repairman, to begin with.

Are there any small leaks or smells coming on if you smell rotten eggs you need to shut off your gas asap and let the fire department know or your local gas company know immediately that could be something very serious?

Second, listen to see if your appliance is even turning on and if it is what kind of noises is it made from, there you can kind of decipher how big of a problem you’re actually having.

Now, this might seem silly but if your appliance isn’t turning on the first place you got to check is whether your outlet is plugged in properly if the outlet needs to be reset if your circuit breaker has been flipped?

So check that first and then you know we’ll go on to the next steps from there.

All right after that if it’s still not powering on, let’s take some photos of either the leaks that are happening or some videos of it not turning on or of the noises, it’s making when it’s going into a certain mode, this will help deduct any reasoning as to why it’s doing that and help show off to the repairman itself, or if you go and try to do some research on yourself by yourself using the internet and the tools off from the internet and these tools can be actually very helpful on the internet such as google, youtube and one that I really like to use is Reddit and more specifically the subreddit appliance repair it’s a great tool you can go ahead and post your photos and videos into that subreddit and this is a network of hundreds if not thousands of repair people from across the world that can help diagnose and or at least send you in the right direction to find the right help to get you appliance working properly again.

So once you have some photos and videos maybe it’s a good time to check your warranty now if you know for sure this is an older appliance your warranty is scratched then maybe not even have to call the customer service line for your brand of the appliance.

But if it’s a newer one and it’s having issues definitely give your customer service rep a call and see what they can do for you, whether it’s sending you parts or sending out a repair person that they work with or suggesting someone work with for you if your warranty is past due all right.

So you haven’t found you know a quality answer or maybe the repair is beyond your self-repair skills.

Now you definitely have to call a repair person.

Where do you look? There are some good tools again google has a nice rating system especially if it’s nearby in your area yelp, as well but the most important thing you need to remember is to do this repair company works on your brand appliance,

So what you want to do is either call your manufacturer and see if they have a recommendation or make sure when you type in your search you’re typing in the appliance manufacturer’s name into the search and that should help narrow down the applicants that you can call and remember don’t just go for the top one or the one that’s promoted at the top go ahead and read some good reviews read some bad reviews and judge for yourself what might fit what your needs in your home and your appliance some bad reviews are easily fixed or they’re misunderstood so be on the lookout for that as well and you know there are some scams out there where people can buy good reviews so if it sounds a little too cheesy or not in-depth enough it’s probably a bot those are some tips that you can look to use to help judge the right repair person for your job. If You’re Looking To Buy Refurbished Appliances

If you’re looking to buy refurbished appliances don’t look on Kijiji or Marketplace as a Facebook, the reason why? when you buy appliances from Marketplace, you are not getting any warranty. You were supposed to trust the person who is telling you is still working, but after you bring it to your home connect your Appliance, you find out the appliance is not working. And now you cannot reach the guy to give the appliance back and get your money back. So that’s why we do recommend you to buy refurbished appliances from local refurbished stores. Before you choose the store, check Google reviews because most companies worry about the reviews. 2 bonus is they offer at least 90 days warranty. And even in those cases, you can give the appliance back, if it will not work right from the beginning. Most of the time I recommend my clients to buy brand new Appliance, but we know everybody situation is different and if you have to buy a refurbished Appliance we recommend 3 company’s

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Service Call Charge, and if we waiving service call with the repair

The thing is that these customers that are not okay with us charging service calls is because it’s a lot of companies out there that do not have to do with service okay like roofing companies and other different construction companies they go they don’t charge a fee for coming out they don’t charge a service call, and the reason why they don’t charge service call, is because they basically don’t do the job, okay so they don’t they go over there and give you an estimate? okay, a quote of how much it’s gonna be to replace the roofing or anything but they’re just walking around and looking at the job that they’re gonna be performing to give you an estimate. For us is different, we have to put our hands in their appliances to be able to find out what’s wrong with it to be able to troubleshoot so we are basically already working on their appliances to find out what’s going on, and then they will decide if they want to do the repair, in this case, we’ll be like finish the repair because we already find out what’s going on with their appliances for a fee and that is the service call fee 99 dollars will cover my time and gas, and sometimes if we have to pay a company like Yelp were paying to them advertise our service and different networks like google ads and Yelp and all different platforms and did you know When you searching for the appliance repair in your area, you clicking on Google Ads, for as a company google charge us $25 dolars a click, just for you to find aur company on Google,  so we tried to cover all that with 99 dollars which is still cheap a lot of companies charge, hundred and ten dollars, a hundred and twenty dollars just for coming out.

Are Appliances Reliable These Days?

Today’s appliances or more electronics than they are appliances the simple power search could take out a $2,000 refrigerator in an instant. John H has been fixing appliances for 5 years he knows firsthand they break more often now than they used to and he knows why they predominantly have more electronic boards and controls in them and the boards control every feature of the appliance and if that board goes out,  you lose the appliance, For example, a Consumer Reports survey 27,000 consumers a few years ago to determine which appliances break within three to four years their results more than one-third of side-by-side refrigerators with ice makers break within that time frame a quarter of front-load washers and one in five dishwashers. so what’s a consumer to do? Well first do what you can yourself there are plenty of online sites for advice and parts and know when to let go rule of thumb if the repair cost more than half the replacement cost throw in the towel and buy a new one bottom line today’s appliances are a lot more energy-efficient and they’ve got a lot more bells and whistles.

Top 5 Appliance Purchase Tips.

Buying a new appliance can be an exciting experience, but the frustration of a bad purchase can make even the shiniest new appliance a total nightmare, with the right information your next appliance purchase can be a resounding success that leaves you satisfied for years to come, with that in mind here are our top five things to look for when buying a new appliance.

Number five unknown brands while many imports are fantastic units, you should always take the time to familiarize yourself with the brand you’re buying from, some overseas brands may be difficult to find technicians and parts for making both routine and emergency repairs a hassle, do your research and find out if the brand you are considering has local technicians and readily available parts.

Number four is expensive price tags, yes it is often true that you get what you pay for, but that doesn’t mean more expensive equals better quality, consider what you’re paying for, does the unit have a lot of frivolous features that you don’t see yourself using is the appliance constructed from quality materials that can stand the test of time, these are a couple of the considerations you should think about when getting ready to make that next big purchase.

Number three features, along the same lines as number four, pay attention to the features that your new appliance has, don’t get caught up in fancy technology that you know you won’t use, and instead focus on making sure your appliance will fit your lifestyle.

Number two is the ease of cleaning, this is an often overlooked part of purchasing decisions, but crucial to the longevity of your appliance, a properly maintained appliance will last years, but a poorly maintained one will need to be replaced quickly, check to ensure that your new appliance is easy to service and maintain for a worthwhile investment.

Number one simplicity, as the saying goes, pick one thing and do it well, an appliance that is trying to fill too many roles likely won’t be excellent at any of them, pick the right tool for the right job, and remember that simplicity, can be a good thing so there are our top five things to look out for when buying a new appliance 🙂
